Candice Swanepoel by Karl Lagerfeld “Couture, Couture”
I love pastries, especially cake. If I was going to be executed, my last meal would probably be a marble cake. I was in Forest Hills last night and was taken to Martha’s Country Bakery; the neighborhood is getting a makeover and the bakery was no exception. On the same block as Chipotle and Friday’s, you might walk past it, but it’s hard to avoid on weekend evenings with their long lines and heavy foot traffic.
With a sprawling choice of pastries, including tarts and gelato (!!!), I had a double chocolate fix with a chocolate milkshake and chocolate mousse cake. I. Was. In. Heaven. Each bite felt like the pastry angels worked overtime just to bestow this blessed cake on me. Paired with my milkshake, I never wanted to leave. Hell, if they let me I’d probably sleep there just to have first dibs on cake and muffins.
Would I go again? Yes. Would I spend half my paycheck if I was financially irresponsible? Yes. Should you go if you’re in the area? Is a piglet pink?
